Hello COBirders,
-- I walked around Stalker Pond (named Stalker Lake on eBird hotspots) for an hour this afternoon, 4/21.
The place was busy with a few families fishing the pond and else quiet but for some Canada geese and a pair of greater yellowlegs. Best birds had to be a pair each of white-crowned and Harris's sparrows.
No flycatchers, in spite of an impressive caddis hatch, and no warblers. Small numbers of wood duck, mallard, northern shoveler, green-winged teal and ring-necked duck. Four rough-winged swallows and lots of mourning doves.
A kettle of 48 turkey vultures with a single Swainson's hawk rode thermals high over the town of Wray.
In a few short hours I'm off to seek the dancing chickens, so some sleep is in order.
Happy trails,
