[cobirds] Huerfano County Update: Snowy Egret, Pinyon Jay

Went out this morning to see what the little bit of fresh snow might have brought our way.

We searched for the better part of an hour for Dusky Grouse at Cuchara Mountain Resort...with no luck. We did have a flock of around 15 Evening Grosbeak, 7 Wild Turkey, Several Northern Flicker, Numerous American Robin, Numerous Steller's Jay

At Lathrop State Park we found:
 30+ Great Blue Heron
Over 50 Green-winged Teal
20 or so Blue-winged teal
2 Cinnamon Teal
15 or so Ruddy Ducks
Gadwall
Pied-bill Grebe
Am. Coot
Lots of Canada Geese
1 pair Hooded Merganser (the male of this pair is either very young or a hybrid...very strange looking...have not bee able to get close enough for photo)
Killdeer
Osprey
Say's Phoebe
27 American Kestral between our home, Cuchara and Lathrop State Park
2 Red-tailed Hawk
Mountain Bluebird
The best sighting of the day had to be a Snowy Egret that lit ever so briefly on the shore at West Martin Inlet, seemed a little on the early side for this bird...but perhaps not?

Back at the house our feeders are being visited by most of the "usual" suspects including:
Hairy and Downy Woodpecker
White-breasted Nuthatch
25 or so Evening Grosbeak
Northern Flicker
House Finch
around 4 and 50 Red-winged Blackbirds
30+ American Goldfinch
a few Pine Siskin
1 Blue Jay
Mountain Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee
far too many House Sparrow and Eurasian Collared Doves
20 or so Pinyon Jay

Polly Wren and Paul Neldner
La Veta, CO
