I found Wednesday that a single Black Phoebe that forages near the MacKenzie Ave bridge over the Arkansas River has found a probable mate. Since these two forage in the vegetation that is within about a hundred feet of this bridge, one can get pretty close views--but do be careful as there is a lot of traffic that drives 40+ mph and no protected pedestrian lane on the east side.
I saw a Black Phoebe on Wednesday also at the river in Florence River Park--this is only a couple of hundred feet from the Fremont Sewer District Plant so well within the foraging range. Please note that the Fremont Sewer District Plant manager would appreciate if any birders who intend to walk into the area to the north and east of the plant during normal working hours (M-F-8-5) would come in to the plant office on the south side of the building to give a courtesy notification to their staff.
The Black Phoebe that I have reported on the Canon City Riverwalk a few hundred feet west of the Sell's Lake parking area did not show Wednesday but I saw it Tuesday. Since it is still in need of a mate it may be moving around in search of one.
I also have a pair and a single Black Phoebe on private property east of Canon City where they have historically nested.
