[cobirds] Baseline Res. (Boulder) and City Park (Denver) Birds on 4/17

I had a 2:00 p.m. meeting at the downtown Denver headquarters of the CU system offices, so I grabbed some lunch and enjoyed City Park for a bit.  The pond by the zoo now has about 200 Double-crested Cormorants +/- on island nests along with 20 Snowy Egrets and 15 Black-crowned Night Herons.  I also heard a Say’s Phoebe calling.

On my way home from the meeting I stopped at Baseline Reservoir in Boulder and was quite pleased to find a Whimbrel (along with a dozen American Avocets and a single Killdeer) plus a stunning breeding plumaged Common Loon.  Baseline has outstanding shorebird habitat right now, so it’s worth a look every day for the next several weeks.
