Saturday, 10/5:
The sun came out and it warmed up nicely for all the fun activities at the Old Stone House, but the banding station hours were FRIGID – the clouds hung over the station until almost 10 a.m., and, although the nets were mostly protected, the wind at the actual station was biting. My fingers have not yet thawed out. Needless to say, bird activity was low; we banded only 7 non-House Sparrows:
Black-capped Chickadee 2
House Wren 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Wilson’s Warbler 1
Chipping Sparrow 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Slate-colored 1
Sunday, 10/6:
Today was sunny and warmer; a few more birds and at least more pleasant!
Hermit Thrush 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 2 (FOS for this subspecies)
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 2
Chipping Sparrow 1
Song Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel’s 2
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 1
CLOSED tomorrow/Monday, then open daily, weather permitting, through Sunday, Oct 13, our final day.
