A first year male showed up briefly at about 8:30 AM along with an unusual number of other birds at my little "waterfall" (yard bird #84). I had never seen this plumage before; the first year male is well illustrated in the Nat Geo Field Guide. The irony is that I have yet to see the commoner species, the Black-headed, yet this year. No use chasing it; I will let you know if it shows up regularly.
