I have had Mountain Chickadees in our Village 7 neighborhood (right off Powers and N. Carefree), in the summer, for about 5 years now. My first summer siting was adults with 4 fledglings in tow, heading into a flower bed about 5 years ago. In 2011, a pair nested in a bluebird sized nest box in my backyard; but I did not see the young fledge. In 2012, a pair were in the neighborhood in the summer, but not nesting in my yard. This year a pair took a replacement nest box in the same location as in 2011; I noticed their activity on Mother's day. Both adults look to be "pure" Mountain Chickadees. Their young fledged sometime this week while I was out of town. I have not noticed any other Mountain Chickadees around in the summer. A few Mountain Chickadees are here in the winter at my feeders, but most are Black Capped.
