I recently discovered Belmar Park, just a tiny bit west of Wadsworth and Ohio. From that intersection drive a block west on Ohio and park in Irongate office building's lot. Here's what I have photographed in the past 3 days: Great blue herons fishing, mom great blue heron sitting on her nest in the same tree as cormorants mentioned next, cormorants (large juveniles in a nest in a tree on an island in the lake), black crowned night heron, egrets, mom and 10 baby wood ducks, lots of moms and baby mallards, baby turtles, teenage turtles, assorted ducks, red winged blackbirds and the usual smaller songbirds. I have been feasting on photographing the larger birds and not paying attention to the smaller ones. On the north side of the park there is a long thin bit of water surrounded by cattails where the herons fish. It is perfectly arranged so that the birds stay on one long side of the water while I photograph from the opposite side without bothering them in the least. I took so many photos that I actually got bored and left. You can set up a chair and hang out for quite a while. Bring bug spray. You can easily fill a large memory card in an hour.
