[cobirds] Evening Grosbeak still coming to my feeders in Canon City

I posted early last month that a large number of Evening Grosbeaks had begun arriving in the Canon City and Florence area at the beginning of May.  As I thought there were clearly hundreds of them that I could hear calling as I walked the Canon City Riverwalk or drove in these towns.  I recall seeing a post from someone questioning this species outside of winter in low elevation areas.  I usually have some Evening Grosbeak, albeit not the dozens I did this year, every spring (and Canon City is about 5,300 feet in elevation) though they sometimes come in April. However, I have reported seeing them all around Canon City on my Birds and Nature blog in 2010,2011 and 2012.

Two years they returned after nesting in their preferred upland coniferous habitats (documented in the Colo Breeding Bird Atlas I) with their young to feed in my platform feeders (very comical to see the fledglings standing in the seed in the tray and calling for their parents to pick the seeds  up and put them in their bills, which they did).

The numbers of Evening Grosbeak have been diminishing for the past 10 days as the birds are presumably leaving for their breeding areas.   For the past several days I have only seen one male and one female at my feeders; and both were there this morning, a full week into June.  I have posted photos of this year's Evening Grosbeaks coming to my feeders on my current Birds and Nature blog.
