COBirders,
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 14th!
For the first time ever, the Colorado Birding Challenge will take place in fall. That's right, it's an all new COBC, and this year promises to be epic with fall shorebirds, waterfowl and early winter gulls all possible!
If you haven't heard, the Colorado Birding Challenge is CFO's super fun, super competitive (if you want) annual birding fundraiser. Think Birdathon meets Big Day. There are three competitive categories plus one non-competitive category. The idea is to form a team and scour the Colorado County of your choice to find as many bird species as possible in 24 hours.
Each county has its own "par" value representing a realistic one-day species goal based on 10 years of eBird data. But eBird data isn't perfect, in fact one of the goals of the COBC is to encourage folks to go birding in some of the more remote areas of the state. It's good for science and could be a good way to maximize your team's chances in this year's COBC!
Visit the COBC page on the CFO website to register your team TODAY. There's a registration fee for the main challenge and the green challenge categories, the unter-25 and Bird As You Like categories are free. Once you've registered and selected the county you'll bird in, we'll send you a link to create your Team's COBC Page and use it to seek donations or pledges from your contacts.
CFO's 2024 fundraising goal is $50,000, which will support our many programs and fund a grant to the Conejos River Restoration Project, a multi-phase project managed by Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and the Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project.
Have fun and help CFO meet its fundraising goal!
Good Birding!
Peter Burke
2024 COBC Committee Chair
