[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, September 5

Lots of banding and birding today at Barr Lake - we caught/banded 75 new birds, we were full-up with interested folks in our modified visitor program, and there was a number of birders out enjoying the Philadelphia Vireo that we banded and reported on Thursday and that was re-found today.

Our coolest bird of the day was a Hairy Woodpecker, who acted like he wanted to eat my hand.  The weirdest capture of the day was a House Finch - they are common at the feeders at the Nature Center, but we NEVER catch them out at the station.  Here's the breakdown:

Hairy Woodpecker 1 (FOS)
Western Wood-pewee 1
Dusky Flycatcher 1
House Wren 1 new, 1 return, banded 8/30/19
Orange-crowned Warbler 2
Yellow Warbler 3
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 2
Townsend's Warbler 2
MacGillivray's Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 2
Wilson's Warbler 44
Green-tailed Towhee 1
Chipping Sparrow 5
Clay-colored Sparrow 1
Brewer's Sparrow 1
Savannah Sparrow 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 3
Lazuli Bunting 1
House Finch 1

If you'd like to visit this fall: Due to restrictions related to Covid-19, we are requiring visitors to make a reservation and we will have only 6 visitors at the station at a time. We are doing three one-hour time slots, from 8-9, 9-10, and 10-11, on Tuesdays and then Thursdays through Sundays, through October 11. There is a $5 per person fee; scholarships are available to those unable to pay. All visitors, staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and people will be expected to socially distance.
