[cobirds] Great Blue Heron convention at Cottonwood Marsh in Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat

Imagine my surprise when I stepped out of my car to look at Cottonwood Marsh today & counted 49 Great Blue Herons standing in rows on the islands! Some were shoulder to shoulder. Others were taking a little more room. A few were along the shore and in the tall grasses. But most stood in quiet rows, like so many gray pier pilings, lining the small islands scattered through Cottonwood Marsh. An occasional kerfuffle would break out when one felt that another was too close. Stooping with wings out and crests lifted, these moments soon devolved to each finding a spot to stand stoically. to It was a siege of Great Blue Herons!
