Re: [cobirds] Re: Larimer County gull report

To comment on Brandon's post, are we confirming this gull is a Slaty-backed Gull? Most of the sightings were viewed at a great distance with very distant shots if any at all.  Referencing the Tufted Duck from Marsten many called the duck until difinitive photos proved otherwise. I noticed Ebird confirmed the sightings so I was wondering if I'm missing something. Just wondering if a chase makes sense...

Not to cause trouble, I know the adult Slaty-backed Gull from Larimer County in 2000 that I saw, had bubble gum pink colored legs, does this bird have them.  In the photos, the bird shows pink legs, though not sure the bright pink I remember with other Slaty-backeds I have seen, mostly from Alaska, and the one in Colorado.  Other things on this bird look pretty good for Slaty-backed, though hybrids of other species can be look like Slaty-backed like.

Good gulling, it is always interesting this time of year!

Like yesterday, the bulk of the Larimer gull flock was hanging out late this afternoon at Warren Lake, about 5 miles northeast of the county landfill. The gulls present are listed in my eBird checklist (below).  One of these may have been Slaty-backed Gull (see low-quality photos by clicking on the link for the eBird checklist).

Note that there was no Great Black-backed Gull(s). This species is reported almost daily of late but has never been photographed. If you see it, please make an effort to photograph it for documentation. Thanks.
