[cobirds] Re: Larimer County gull report

I took a crack at the landfill on X-mas eve... There were certainly a lot of different gulls out there. I have attached a couple of photos of the closest one I could find to the reported Slaty. Is this the same bird you guys have been seeing? Unfortunately wasn't able to get a picture of the primary extension as the bird crested the hill without presenting them. Through the scope the mantle seemed dark, but not as dark as the pictures came out, a couple of shades lighter than a Lesser Black Backed that was seen shortly after this.

Also, is this the Nelson's gull you saw, Andy?

I was with Nick the last 20 minutes the mystery gull was present. My own description and digiscoped photos, which are no better and probably worse than Nick's, are on my eBird checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S50984286. I interpret Nick's post as welcoming input and continued attempts to document a possible rare gull that seems to be lingering around Larimer County. That's all I'm doing, too.

Like yesterday, the bulk of the Larimer gull flock was hanging out late this afternoon at Warren Lake, about 5 miles northeast of the county landfill. The gulls present are listed in my eBird checklist (below).  One of these may have been Slaty-backed Gull (see low-quality photos by clicking on the link for the eBird checklist).

Note that there was no Great Black-backed Gull(s). This species is reported almost daily of late but has never been photographed. If you see it, please make an effort to photograph it for documentation. Thanks.
