[cobirds] Bohemian Waxwings in Gilpin County

I was hoping for Tree Swallows near Rollinsville or an Osprey at the traditional nest site at Los Lagos at the Boulder/Gilpin county line on CO 119.  That didn’t happen, so maybe an early Fox Sparrow?  I stopped at my favorite FOSP spot in Gilpin just east of Tolland on the Rollins Pass Road.  No sparrows were around, but there was something perched at the very top of a fir on the south side of the road—a gray, crested bird.  Pulling out my scope confirmed Bohemian Waxwing, and actually at least eight, each at the top of their own tree.

They were silent, or inaudible to my ears, and the disappeared just like that.  But it was sure nice to see some—my first in several years.
