[cobirds] Surge of Cranes Today

Today, the southerly winds brought the first major surge of migrating birds to the San Luis Valley. A few hundred cranes were heard off and on all day, and one flock of 120 individuals was seen at the Monte Vista Refuge. In addition, I spotted 300 Cackling Geese at the refuge. The refuge usually turns on the water at this time, but none was flowing quite yet. It was a 50 delightful degrees here today and more like mid-March. What winter?

Be sure to google Monte Vista Crane Festival as the schedule is out.
