The Fountain Creek CBC was completed back on December 18, 2024. The weather was neither great nor terrible. We came out on the higher end of historical averages for observers and species, with 37 observers and 88 observed species and 8293 birds.
A few interesting observations:
Waterfowl counts were on the low end that day. There was quite a bit of open water available all around the region and so this may have dispersed some compared to the long term average. A Barrow's Goldeneye on Colorado Springs Utility properties was new for the count.
We had a record high for the count for Greater Roadrunners, with 3, all on Fort Carson.
We also had a record high for the count of Canyon Towhees, at 51.
