[cobirds] nice night flight, early Fri., Sept. 9, Boulder Co.

Hey, all. Was out during the 4am hour this morning, Fri., Sept. 9, in Lafayette, Boulder Co., where a decent night flight was in progress. The weather was clearing at the time, with a low but disorganized cloud deck and some very light drizzle giving way to mostly starlit skies.

I don't hear the high-pitched flight calls of warblers and sparrows nearly as well as I did ~15 years ago, when I was listening compulsively at night in Colo., but, still, it reminded me of one of those strong flight nights from yesteryear. I heard 4 Swainson thrushes for sure, amid the "tseep" and "zeet" notes of sparrows and warblers.

The great horned owls--two pairs duetting--were marvelous.

Orthopterans: snowy tree crickets, fall field crickets, Allard ground crickets, and presumed Carolina ground crickets and western tree crickets. Didn't hear any this morning, but in the 8pm hour yesterday evening, Thurs., Sept. 8: greater angle-wing katydids and Plains harvest-flies.
