Hey everyone!
I'm calling on your expertise once again to aid in my learning. This season, at Chatfield State Park, I was patrolling the shore line when I heard an unfamiliar bird call. This was on June 21st, if that helps. I heard an array of other birds, that I could identify, but one in particular stood out that I didn't recognize. I couldn't see the bird as it kept hidden away in the trees. It made a repeated whooping like noise, followed by what can only be described as a car alarm type sound. I had to take the recording and amplify the sound to better hear it. Hopefully all calls stand out. Can someone help identify this bird (and the others they recognize) in the clip? It would help my ID immensely. I've not used this sound recording service before, so I'm hoping the audio works.
As for the ducks! At the waterway near our house, we have seen an incredibly large Drake Mallard the last few seasons take up residence here. He's hard to miss. However, what's interesting is that in all the times we've seen him, he is almost always accompanied by another, smaller, male. We've never seen either with a female, and have seen them together through multiple seasons. Is this an instance of a homosexual pairing? It's fascinating to see them.
