[cobirds] Chatfield SP and Robert A. Easton Park 3/1

Two Long-tailed Ducks were steadfastly snoozing at Chatfield Reservoir this morning, just south of the North Boat Launch parking area (JeffCo). One appeared to be a male. I suspect these were 2 of the 3 that were present much of the winter at nearby South Platte Res, but I did not look over there to see if any remained there. The same area of Chatfield had 7 Western Grebes, my first in JeffCo this season. 2 Killdeer were at the Swim Beach, and 2 young Bald Eagles were loafing on the ice near the South Platte inlet. What is left of the ice remains from the old heronry overlook and south of there, with lots of birds in that area but nothing unusual that I saw.

I encountered 5 Hairy Woodpeckers in Chatfield SP this morning, a species I have only sporadically found in the park, and usually just as singles. One was near the old heronry overlook, and 4 were in the South Platte gallery forest upstream of Kingfisher Bridge in JeffCo; one was drumming. An American Pipit was along the South Platte just downstream of the Chatfield dam. A Mountain Bluebird was at the model airfield.

Hine Lake at Robert A. Easton Regional Park had an adult Greater White-fronted Goose and 10 Greater Scaup (JeffCo).
