It was a long day of birding today, starting as the sun came up in Pueblo City Park, where I heard and then saw a male BLACKPOLL WARBLER, near the Frisbee Creek part of the park. In the NE part of the park, while birding with Kara Carragher, Lisa Edwards, and Maggie Boswell, we saw two BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and two GREEN HERONS.
The four of us headed to Chico Basin Ranch (fee area). Our highlights follow, many of these were seen by other people (John Drummond and other folks), before we saw them.
El Paso County (part of Chico):
Blackpoll Warbler - 1 male
Ovenbird - 1
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1 first year male
Veery -1
Broad-winged Hawk - 1
BAND-TAILED PIGEON - 1 (maybe only about the 3rd Chico Basin Ranch sighting) -- I took a couple photos
Pueblo County (part of Chico)-- along with several people:
Blackpoll Warbler - 1 female
Ovenbird - 1
Townsend's Warbler - 1
White-throated Sparrow - 1
Veery - 1 (Lisa and others saw it, I missed it)
We saw Mel Goff's bull snake too near the HQ Willows.
Fountain Creek Regional Park, El Paso County -- thanks to Bill Maynard for letting us know, about his nice find.
PROTHONOTARY WARBLER - 1 female
Blackpoll Warbler - 2 males, 1 female
Northern Waterthrush - 1 singing
American Redstart - 1 first year male
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1 full adult male
Hopefully I didn't forget anything, thanks ladies for letting me join in for a fun day of birding. In summary, I saw 6 Blackpoll Warblers today, they seem to be all over right now!
