[cobirds] Re: Ferruginous Hawk, Park County

They are actually year-round residents in parts of CO and eBird shows previous sightings in June/July in South Park.

CObirders,

Yesterday, while doing the Boreas Pass USGS Breeding Bird Survey route, Elena Klaver and I saw a handsome Ferruginous Hawk on the ground about a mile south of Como!  I think it was eating a small animal.
See attached picture.

I thought that this was a winter hawk in Colorado, but it appears that this one is staying here during the breeding season.

By the way, wildflowers are absolutely spectacular on this high mountain prairie right now!
