[cobirds] Snowmass Rosy-Finches, Pitkin

Hi all

I did a free Bird Tour for the Aspen Ski-co yesterday, Tuesday, at Snowmass Ski Area. We concentrated on the bird feeder at Sam’s Knob, where a flock of around 200 Rosy-Finches, in the vast majority Brown-capped, also contained both Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch and Black Rosy-Finch. A single Pine Grosbeak also visited the feeder, as did Steller’s Jays and Mountain Chickadees. Gray Jays were lingering at lunchtime outside the high mountain restaurants, and a flock of 15 Common Ravens overflew – unusual at the site, where we normally only find them in twos or threes. No White-tailed Ptarmigan were found

Later a Golden Eagle flew down Brush Creek.

I will repeat the bird tour next week – if anyone is interested in joining me, please contact me offlist at  < dickfilby AT hotmail.com >

Best wishes
