[cobirds] Dickcissel, CSR, El Paso Co, Tuesday

Hey COBirders,

I resumed migrant banding at Clear Spring Ranch this week - mostly to check on early migrating Yellow Warblers - and I've caught two packing fat so far (residents wouldn't need to store any yet).

So far I've caught many Lazuli Buntings, Chipping Sparrows (all adults, except for the first juv today), House Wrens, and have seen huge flocks of Com Grackles and RW Blackbirds.

Highlight today was a pair of Hatch-year Female Dickcissels. I know they are around in August, but I've only caught 2 others on 9 years here. There are only records of a handful having been banded in Colorado, according to the Bird Banding Lab last time I caught one.

Also - see below - I'm guessing a hybrid Indigo x Lazuli Bunting Second-year male. Not quite all blue, not quite a chestnut breast (there was a little more on the other side), and not quite a white belly. Cool.

Migration!!!
