[cobirds] Banding at Barr Lake - Bird Conservancy of the Rockies

I fell asleep last night thinking that I needed to post something on COBirds about banding this fall at Barr Lake; woke up this morning to see Charlie had beat me to it!  We are indeed going to be open this fall, if we ever get the net lanes cleared.  The water was pulled down really early this summer and the resulting plant growth is almost overwhelming.  Our hand-held weed whacker was no match for it, and even the State Park's super push mower type thing gave out before we were done with the worst of it.  (I know, Charlie made it sound kinda fun, but.........)  Okay, enough whining, on to the good news:

We are planning to run the station, from August 22 to October 11, open 6 days a week (closed Mondays).  It will be a somewhat reduced operation, as we need to keep staff and volunteers to a number that allows for social distancing and other COVID-19 considerations.  The biggest change will be for visitors.  As most of you know, we usually have school groups out mid-morning every weekday and some organized groups on weekends, and have welcomed other visitors to drop by in the early morning and on weekends.  This year, again because of the virus, we are planning to do a reservation-based system for visitors, up to six people for one hour time slots.  The details are still being worked out, but it should be easy to go on-line, see what times are available, sign up and come visit.  More information before the week is out!

We were terribly disappointed to cancel last spring and we are thrilled to be getting back out, almost to normal, this fall.  We look forward to seeing many of you soon.  As Charlie mentioned, there are lots of birds around now; we are hoping that continues!
